Are you in need of locating a product ID within your WooCommerce store? Each item added to your WooCommerce inventory is assigned a distinct and exclusive identity number. There might be situations where you require this ID to either search for a product or showcase it in a promotional campaign. In this beginner’s guide, we’ll walk you through the process of swiftly identifying a product ID in WooCommerce.

In the world of WooCommerce, a Product ID denotes the unique identity number assigned to each product within your store. All the essential product information in WooCommerce is meticulously stored in the WordPress database, and this ID number is automatically generated to differentiate each record. This Product ID is instrumental behind the scenes, enabling WooCommerce to manage product displays, process orders efficiently, and execute various other essential tasks. However, there are occasions when you may find yourself in need of the Product ID for specific purposes. For instance, when you’re constructing a WooCommerce product page, you might require the Product ID to accurately present a particular product. Similarly, if you’re utilizing a WooCommerce plugin, it might demand Product IDs to showcase related products or offer upsells. Now, let’s delve into the steps to swiftly unearth a Product ID in WooCommerce.

Uncovering a Product ID in WooCommerce is a straightforward process. Initiate by navigating to the “Products » All Products” page. Here, you’ll encounter a list featuring the most recent additions to your store’s product inventory. Hover your mouse cursor over the title of any product, and a line of commands will appear right below the product title. Within this line, you’ll spot the Product ID, identified as “ID:” followed by the unique ID number. For instance, in the screenshot provided above, the Product ID for the demo product is denoted as 81. If your store boasts only a handful of products, simply scroll through this products page to discover a product and access its respective ID. Alternatively, you can employ the search function situated at the top-right corner of the products table to swiftly pinpoint a product by its name. This will streamline the list of displayed products, allowing you to effortlessly locate your desired item and view its associated ID by hovering the mouse over its title. Furthermore, you can also locate a Product ID by clicking on the “Edit” link. This action will open the “Edit Product” page, and if you examine your browser’s address bar, you’ll readily locate the Product ID within the URL.

In the event that the product you’re searching for features variations, the method outlined above remains applicable for identifying the Product ID. However, each individual variation will possess its own unique Product ID. To elucidate, if you’re selling a T-shirt in three distinct colors (e.g., Red, Blue, and Green), each color variant will have its exclusive Product ID. To pinpoint the Product ID for a specific variation, commence by locating the product through the “Products » All Products” page and proceed to click on the “Edit Product” link situated below the product’s title. As you scroll down to the “Product Data” section on the product editing screen, select “Variations,” and you’ll be presented with a comprehensive list of product variations, each accompanied by its respective ID.

Now, let’s differentiate between a Product SKU and a Product ID. SKU stands for Stock Keeping Unit, serving as a distinctive identifier assigned by store owners to facilitate inventory management and tracking. Retailers, wholesalers, and other store proprietors rely on SKUs for purposes such as product barcoding. Unlike Product IDs, SKUs are not generated automatically by WooCommerce; instead, they necessitate manual input from the store owner to be associated with WooCommerce products. If your WooCommerce store doesn’t track inventory, your products might not possess SKUs or require them. For instance, if you specialize in selling digital downloads or virtual products, the need to monitor inventory might not apply. Nevertheless, every product within your online store will invariably possess a unique Product ID, courtesy of WooCommerce’s automated generation. Even if you opt not to enter an SKU, your products will still carry a Product ID.
